Before your first session, here's what you can expect around cost, scheduling, and how things work day-to-day — so there's nothing to guess at once we get started.

Meaningful change takes time and consistency. While there’s no rigid requirement, I typically recommend weekly sessions, especially in the beginning. Meeting regularly helps us build on what we’re exploring and creates space to practice new ways of responding to familiar patterns. As you begin to feel more grounded, we can discuss spacing sessions out based on your needs and goals.

Common Thread Counseling is a private-pay practice, which means I don’t accept insurance or bill insurance companies directly.
My fee is $170 for a 50-minute individual session, with payment collected automatically through Stripe at the end of each appointment.
If your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement. I’m happy to provide a superbill, an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance company. Reimbursement isn’t guaranteed, so I encourage you to check your benefits before we begin.

When we schedule a session, I set that time aside for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, I ask that you let me know at least 24 hours in advance.
Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice and missed appointments are charged the full session fee of $170. I understand that unexpected things come up, and I appreciate as much notice as possible so I can offer that time to someone else.

Under the No Surprises Act, if you’re uninsured or aren’t using insurance to pay for therapy, you have the right to know what to expect financially before we begin.
I’ll provide a written Good Faith Estimate outlining the anticipated cost of our sessions based on how often we plan to meet. You’re also welcome to request one before scheduling. Therapy looks different for everyone, so this is simply an estimate—not a contract or a commitment to a certain number of sessions.
If you receive a bill that is $400 or more above your estimate, you have the right to dispute it.
For questions or more information, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.

If your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be able to get partial reimbursement. On request, I can provide a superbill — a receipt with the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurance needs to process a reimbursement claim.
Getting Started
Reaching out is often the hardest part. Once you do, here's exactly what happens next — so you're never left wondering what comes after you hit "send."
1. Reach out
Fill out the consultation form or send an email. I'll respond within 24 hours to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation.
2. Consultation call
We'll talk for 15–20 minutes about what's bringing you to therapy and what you're looking for. This is also your chance to ask me anything.
3. Paperwork
If we decide to move forward, I'll send intake paperwork through my client portal, SimplePractice, ahead of our first session. It only takes about 10–15 minutes to complete.
4. Our first session
We'll spend our first session getting to know each other — your story, what's brought you here, and what you're hoping will feel different. You don't need to have it all figured out — we'll hit the ground running from wherever you are.
This is where you stop carrying it alone.
